I have always wanted to go for afternoon tea, I think its one of those right of passages that everyone should experience at least once a year! I had never had the opportunity until now to go, and I leaped at the chance.
If you haven’t been, you must go this Christmas – even just for the festive decorations – which, can I mention means an incredible amount of real fir trees lining the staircase, and fabulous lights everywhere in addition to the great atmosphere that comes with this.
And if you are lucky you might meet a puppy called Mabel in the toilet :).
We went for a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne to accompany our afternoon tea, and I actually really recommend going a bit later – our booking was 4.45, as you it feels more of a dinner / you can roll away to another bar or home afterwards.
The menu includes:
A pre-afternoon tea bite
Cucumber – Greek yoghurt, lime, mint
Egg Mayonaise – Watercress
H.Foremans Smoked Salmon – Chipotle, coriander and spring onions
Ham & Aged Cheese – Mustard, honey, walnuts
Coronation Chicken – Spiced Chicken Mayonnaise, Coriander
Fig mousse, almond cake
Raspberry jam, raspberries, matcha, whipped cream
Hazelnut praline, milk chocolate
Pear mousse, caramel
Vanilla bavaroise, bitter lemon
Plain and Raison Scones
Homemade strawberry jam
Lemon curd, Cornish clotted cream
It’s an incredibly tasty menu, with rich flavours and looks beautiful – good enough to eat.
You can even take it away in a themed box if you just can’t manage that extra mouthful, and you are even gifted two gorgeous illustrated postcards when you leave.
I can’t wait to go back, and taste the festive menu now! Thank you The Connaught, for a wonderful experience.
